“And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.” ~ Mark 2:4 KJV
First Things First
There are some things that go on in your life that require your immediate attention. There are some things that just can not go undone. There are some things that no matter the situation or the obstacle, you have come to understand that the need must be met, no matter the cost.
It’s because the bills keep coming that causes you to get up early in the morning to go to work. It’s because the children need clothes on their backs that causes you go out in the rain and the snow to punch that time clock that allows you to get paid.
When it comes to our secular lives we seem to have our priorities in order. When it comes to the things that make us happy, we push to give our best efforts. When it comes to living a comfortable lifestyle, we will work our fingers to the bone. But when I look at worship service today and I see the empty pews, it grieves me that the spiritual life often has to suffer.
I have seen people everywhere I go suffering from spiritual brokenness. The sad thing about it is that most people don’t realize how spirituality broken they really are. I see members of the church who only casually participate in worship service. I see members who only drop by every now and then for Bible Class. I see some that act like Sunday School is the farthest thing from their mind.
When you become thirsty and need a drink of water a Coke won’t do it, iced tea won’t do it. When you get thirsty a cup of coffee won’t make it better. You’ve got to have yourself some water, because it’s the only thing that will quench your thirst. And if you don’t have it, you will find a way to get it. Even if it means going down to the creek and dipping with your hands. Even if it means kneeling at the banks and lapping like a dog. If that’s what it takes you’ll get it BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!
I thank God for the people who still hunger and thirst for the word of God. There are still some people who can not wait to get to church on Sunday morning. There are still some people who don’t let their problems keep them from worshipping the Lord. They won’t let the gas prices stop them, they won’t let the road blocks scare them, they won’t let the opposition hinder them. They have made up in their minds that “I WON’T LET NOTHING, KEEP ME FROM JESUS!”
So I’m gonna get there if I have to walk. I’m gonna get there if I have to crawl. I’m gonna get there even if I have to go all by myself!
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39 KJV
